AU4 - ROUND 1 WINTON

It’s finally May, meaning it is the first race weekend of the year in the new F4 car. But first, a test day was in order to test out the car on a new track to get one last final practice. Getting to meet the new teammates, mechanics and engineers made it an all round successful day of practice. A new helmet was also collected this weekend and it looks amazing - maybe it will make Angus looks faster!

Friday consisted of some more practice but in amongst the other categories of the round, 2× 30 minutes and 1×15 made sure the specifics of tuning the car for the race were confirmed. After the day was done it was time to get in the zone for qualifying the next day.

Hopping in the car for Qualifying in AU4 was a whole new feeling for Angus but he was ready to see what the field consisted of and show off what he can achieve. The session is split into 2, making Quali 1 for Race 1 and Quali 2 for Race 3. Angus managed to show off his amazing pace by qualifying P3 and P5, demonstrating his talent on live television. But there was little time to celebrate with Race 1 coming up very shortly in the afternoon.

The first 30 minute race was close to getting underway as Angus lined up in his P3 grid spot. The cameras were on him as one of the rookies of the season having qualified higher than many previous season starters. The race was long and hard with some incredible battles and drama happening, ultimately leading Angus to a P4 finish in his first ever AU4 race start!

Sunday had rolled around quickly which included the final 2 races of the round. Race 2 showed a challenge with unpredicted wet and windy conditions. Unpredictable weather means a different set up done on the practice days, and with it being a gamble between wet and slick tyres meant Angus battled it home to P7. However, now the final race was among us - starting P5 ready for another dramatic race filled with safety cars and red flags, but worked in Angus’ favour helping him get up to P3. Things took a turn for the worst when it started heavily raining on the last lap, causing so much carnage and threatened all the hard work Angus had done to get to P3! However he kept is strong and celebrated as he managed to make it over the line on his first ever AU4 weekend as a podium position celebrant! What a good and successful weekend of learning and driving from Angus! And a huge thank you to the Tim Macrow team for helping me get there.
