AU4 - ROUND 2 SYDNEY

Only a couple of weeks later and we are back out racing for the second round of the AU4 championship, this time out at Sydney Motorsport Park. A new track for Angus and lots of speed and turns to dominate to wheel his AU4 car to the top. However first was a practice day, or night, as it started at 8pm and went all the way through until 10:30. Testing and tuning in the night and the wet provided Angus with some new and tricky situations to navigate, enhancing his skill level as a driver.

However, after a short sleep it was time for the start of the weekend, beginning with Practice day. The usual format of 2×30 minute sessions followed by 1×15 minute session meant more dry practice could be done to further fine tune the car for a new track in different conditions. Multiple set-ups were tried and tested until the perfect one was created, setting up for hopefully a successful Qualifying and Race 1.

However, Saturday turned into a day of learning curves and analysis. Qualifying was a challenge, finding it difficult due to traffic, and finding pace, placing Angus in P7 and P6 for two of the races. However, with the first race being this afternoon, there was only time to focus on the strategy to drive his way through the field.

Lining up on the grid for Race 1 sneaked upon Angus, and before we knew it the lights were out and the race had begun! The race was off to a good start, looking great for a Saturday afternoon. However, unfortune struck when Angus spun out and could not get back going again. His race was over for today and he just had to sit on the sidelines and watch until it was time to get the car back to the garage.

Nevertheless, that was only one race and Angus had 2 more to go for the weekend to show what he could do. Saturday night was a reset, ready to go for Sunday. Race 2 was another day to show the AU4 competitors what he can do. An incredible start to the race making up 4 positions was a great way for Angus to show what he is capable of. He was daring and went for a hard move, which unfortunatly sent him in a spin and to the back of the grid. But he did not let this stop him, as he got right back on the accelerator to hunt down the field. He merged through the cars to build back up the positions he lost and managed to get back up within the top 10, demonstrating his incredible determination.

Now the final Race was ready to go green. But in true motorsport fashion, carnage hit the grid during turn 2, needing Angus to demonstrate some fast reaction times to avoid receiving any unwanted damage. He continued to overtake and drive through the field, including a long-winded battle with his teammate Brock, to take it home in P5! A well deserved finishing position for a determined Angus. This weekend pushed many learning curves at Angus, making him a better and more experienced driver, but also showed his grit, perseverance and passion.
