AU4 - ROUND 5 QUEENSLAND
The championship finale is here, and has been moved from Sydney to Angus’ home track, Queensland Raceway. A busy week is ahead, with 2 test days, and the normal race weekend format.
Friday practice was only 2×30 minute sessions today, with the final 15 minute one being first up tomorrow. These sessions were good at tuning up the car and testing some final techniques. A quick visit to Focus to see Luke in between the sessions allowed for Angus to get some specific technique and race craft skills. He put these into practice in the final session of the day out on track to push the limit.
Saturday was a filled day, with official practice, qualifying and Race 1. Everyone was out to watch this weekend, including all of Angus’ old category friends in Hyundai Excels, so the support was in full swing. Official practice included some practice starts, and quick laps around the paperclip before a quick break to Qualifying. The 2× 15 minute sessions were close, with Angus qualifying P7 and P8, but only 2 tenths between him and pole!
After a lunch break and watching some excel racing, it was time for Angus’ last first race of the 2026 season. After completing the reconnaissance lap and formation lap, it was time to watch the lights and get away. Lots of battles in this race and consistent pushing to continue to gain positions and momentum. Angus crossed the line in P8, a very solid result in between lots of battles. The lap times from this race sets the grid for race 2, and due to Angus’ constant battles, he was going to start in P10.
After an afternoon of rest, the last day of AU4 2026 rolled around and it was time to start Race 2. Angus had an incredible first lap, making up 4 positions before even making it back to the start! However, an unfortunate racing event took Angus out at T3, causing Angus’ car to be delivered back to the team on a tow truck, and sadly DNF the race. The incredible mechanics at Tim Macrow racing all pitched in and helped Josh and Ryan fix the car before the last race started. It was a time crunch, but they managed to do it and it almost looked as good as new (with the addition of a carbon fibre front wing!).
This last race Angus had to show what he was capable of and ride the wheels of the car one last time this season. Starting in P8, the field remained close around the first lap, and continued to follow each other the whole race. Angus played the consistent game and brought it home in P8 - determination for finishing the season strong.
