AU4 - ROUND 4 ADELAIDE
The penultimate round of AU4 is here and Angus is still within the fight for P3 in the championship for his rookie season. And we are also back at The Bend, making it two consecutive rounds, but on slightly different layouts. This time, the track as 3 fast right handers around the back for an extra challenge.
Friday Practice was successful. Fine tuning the car and pushing the limits to see where Angus can improve and develop as a driver. After a hard day of practice was over, a quick run from the end of the final session to the Go-Kart track was underway! Majority of the AU4 grid came to battle it out in the rental karts, and everyone was not gong down without a fight. Lots of spins, overtakes and funny arm gestures came into play throughout the race, but Angus put on his best show and came home in P2 (spinning onto the grass just after the checkered flag).
After a fun afternoon and a restful evening, it was time to prepare for Qualifying. Pushing to get the fastest lap time based off all the practice the day before is the aim. The first session concluded early with a yellow flag, putting Angus in P8. The second qualifying was underway shortly after and Angus kept pushing to get a higher result than the first. He managed to achieve that with a starting position in Race 3 of P6.
Unfortunatly though, before the start of the next race Angus, and 6 other drivers, were called to the stewards and handed a 6 place grid penalty for not lifting under yellows. All those drivers were to start from the back of the grid and learn a valuable lesson right before their first race. However, the light had gone out and Angus made an amazing move to dodge a car that had remained stopped on the grid, incredible reflexes which saved a lot of damage. The rest of the race Angus continued to fight and made his way up to P6, an incredible finish from such a chaotic racing afternoon.
Sunday had rolled around and 2 more races were left at this final round of The Bend Motorsport Park. He was starting P9 in this first race. The first few laps contained lots of close battles to fight his way to the top, however Angus got off the track and had to driver through the pits to make a quick fix before speeding his way back out to match the front of the grid. Unfortunately, he finished P17, however his determination to fight the from runners and keep going despite the setback shows amazing determination. The final race Angus was starting back at P6. He had a great start off the line and very quickly got himself to P4 within the first few laps! Some good battles happened during this time to make him lose his nose cone, affecting the aerodynamics of the car severely. Angus was pushing as hard as he could but was slower than the cars behind him due to the force that was upon his car. He finished the race back where he started, P6, which is an incredible move to be able to keep such a high standard, even with a broken car.
